Namahana Panui’s song, “Ka Nani Kamaha‘o” inspired the theme of Ho‘okena's fourth album. Meaning “The wondrous glory,” this song is a spiritual testament that compares the power of akua with the intensity of a waterfall, surrounded in a spectacular landscape of roses, ‘iwa‘iwa (maiden hair) and palapalai ferns, roses, all animated in sun rays. The wondrous glory awakens you with the fragrances of hala and miulana (pakalana). In this recording, Ho‘okena introduces its first full English recording, “Lovely Way,” and incorporates saxophone and jazz piano for an expanded sound. The composite photo cover took Ho‘okena on hikes to places they otherwise would not have enjoyed, creating, in the end, an oasis for the imagination. |
